The Tudor Rose Café in Westerham, Kent

You won't get a more traditional teashop than this one in Westerham, Kent. It's right on the green, opposite the statue of Winston Churchill (who lived in Westerham) and it's one of those quaint places. It even has a strange light box device over one of the tables for those suffering from that strange ailment, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Anyway, I've been going there on and off for some time. In fact, it was the last place I visited with my father-in-law, Norman Woodley, before he died last September.

On this occasion, it was me, the missus, my daughter and the mother-in-law. I had a cup of tea but I could have enjoyed cakes (£3.50); sandwiches (from £3.00 to £3.80) or a soup and bread for £4.10.

That's not all: there are main course meals on offer at the Tudor Rose. Rosemary lamb is £8; a meat, mushroom and spinach lasagne will set you back £7.50; steak and ale pie or Shepherd's Pie is also £7.50 and a jacket potato with a filling is £4.60.

A cup of tea is £1.50 and a cream tea (with the scone and jam) is £5.

The Tudor Rose has plenty of competition in Westerham, but all the other places are slightly trendy and pretentious so my advice would be pay a visit to this traditional teashop and caff.
